Course Curriculum
Module 1: Introduction to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) is a very hot topic lately, but it has been around for as long as we interact as humans. Given its current emphasis, there are misconceptions of what DE&I is and how we should address it. Your instructors will discuss what it is, what it's not, and how you should respond in this introduction. We will also give you a preview of what is coming in the following
weeks.
Module 2: A Cultural Framework
As Peter Drucker famously said, "Culture east strategy for lunch", and research has pretty much proven that statement. Thus, if we want to change the culture, we must understand our current state and our desired state. In this session, your instructor provides a quantitative view of culture and how to measure the current state and desired state of your DE&I efforts.
Module 3: Gender Diversity
Probably the oldest and most challenging of all of the diversity topics. Gender issues have been around as long as men and women have been walking the Earth. This relationship only gets more complex, and the circumstances around us get more involved. In this session, your instructor will discuss how we got to this state, the current challenges, and some strategies to use when achieving the optimal DE&I culture.
Module 4: Racial Diversity
Social unrest has been at its highest lately as of recent events. The Black Lives Matters movements have taken hold of our collective consciousness on this topic and demands an answer. Racial relationships also get more complex, and the circumstances around us get more complicated. In this session, your instructor will discuss how we got to this state, the current challenges, and some strategies
to use when achieving the optimal DE&I culture.
Module 5: Sexual Orientation and Identification Diversity
The LQBTQ Community has been under duress for many years. Given the advent of the unrest in social issues, this plays an essential part in setting a corporate culture sensitive to these issues. In this session, your instructor discusses the LGTBQ issues from the inside out and provides strategies to create an inclusive, healthy, and productive culture.
Module 6: Neurodiversity - The invisible discrimination
The neurodiverse community is the most difficult to detect as it's known as the invisible community. This community, composed of those "on the spectrum" of autism, includes some of the brightest people in the business. People like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and actor Dan Aykroyd, and comedian Jerry Seinfeld, are all on the spectrum. In this session, we will go over some of the issues that neurodiverse people face, some ways to identify the problems, and strategies to help those in need.
Module 7: Using Data to become Diverse
Anytime an organization is looking to transform, it must identify a set of measures and metrics for success. Building a culture of diversity is no exception. Understand both lagging and leading indicators is critical to a successful transformation. In this session, your instructor will discuss the overall analytics world as it pertains to culture, how it also applies to diversity, and some analytics strategies to employ when undergoing a cultural transformation.
Module 8: The Leading in a Diverse Culture
Leading comes in many different ways. Leading a company through a transformation such as diversity and maintaining it requires a greater insight that is different from many other transformations. In this session, your instructor will discuss leadership traits needed to transform this type, the new skills that any leader needs when addressing diversity, and leadership strategies that will make your transformation a success.
