A Course in Creating High-Impact Leadership with
Storytelling
This course is designed to provide leaders with the tools to uncover their own unique set of values, vision, and purpose that are foundational to the creation of their leadership story. Ideal for executives, mid-level management and senior-level job seekers alike, Leading with Story addresses how to effectively lead teams through growth and change as well as the art of upskilling while facing an uncertain market.
The interactive format of the course provides experiential learning that will deepen communication skills, develop a listen-first mindset and the participants ability to bring to life how they drive and communicate strategic and transformational thinking.

- Create and deliver a story that sticks—about who they are and what they do.
- Clarify the “why?” behind their story and the “why now?” to capture the urgency.
- Use sensory detail to generate powerful emotional resonance for their listeners.
- Mine their experiences for great material.
- Streamline their thoughts and shape their story arc.
- Present in a natural way that feels unrehearsed and genuine.
- Create their own 4-minute leadership story for meetings, pitches, vision/mission statement, or interview.
- Learn about 3 types of story applications: Transformation, Onboarding and Knowledge Transfer

Overview
Session 1: Why story? Why now?
Create a statement and clear rationale for why you need a story and why you need it now. This is key in order to generate the sense of urgency that you want to embody when presenting who you are and what you do.
Session 2: What is your value as a leader?
Listening exercises lead to innovative ways of thinking about your values and how to
demonstrate them.
Session 3: Remember your heritage
Where you come from informs what you value. Through a powerful exercise of personal storytelling and listening, delve into your heritage to find what drives you. This gets you one step closer to your leadership story.
Session 4: Mapping your leadership story
Learn how to zero in on the essence of your message, using the senses and specific. details that are unique to your experience, to connect emotionally with your audiences. Group work and feedback are used in this module to increase your confidence in your
ability to generate a compelling story and demonstrate who you are and what you do.
Session 5: Telling your leadership story
If you’re personally invested in the values, mission and vision you’re expressing through your story, it will captivate and resonate with your audience. Learn how to connect on three levels: audience, story and body. This is crucial to the delivery of your story.
Session 6: Application #1 - The Transformation story
Calls for transformation require creating a shared vision that draws on the organization’s
collective strengths. This module will provide guiding points on how to identify the key
elements of the desired transformation, what inspires changes and how to demonstrate
where your team(s) fit(s) into the story. Whether it’s a crisis or exponential growth, a
story is required to support everyone in navigating such a transformation.
Session 7: Application #2 - Onboarding
A successful Onboarding process begins with the recruitment process and continues through the hiring process and beyond. It requires an organization-wide commitment to developing and sharing true stories at every point of contact that model core values,
inspire commitment, and facilitate a sense of community. This module outlines key elements of a successful story infused onboarding process.
Session 8: Application #3 - Knowledge Transfer
Knowledge transfer seeks to capture and distribute information and ensure its availability for future users. This knowledge resides in individual members, tools, tasks, and organizational networks. This session will outline how a successful knowledge transfer is based on the development of a committed story capturing, retaining, and sharing process.

Julienne B. Ryan, Narativ Trainer, Communications
Julienne B. Ryan is a communication catalyst. She leads her clients through a journey of self–discovery, and self-acceptance as she connects them to the power of personal storytelling. Julienne presents humorous, motivational storytelling presentations that
celebrate her client’s challenges and hero moments. She delivers interactive keynotes at national and regional conferences sharing insights about communication, relationships, and leadership. She is also an avid podcast guest and co-host, and nothing makes her happier than the opportunity to learn other people’s back stories.
Julienne works with businesses, organizations, educational institutions and non-profit agencies. She facilitates story workshops that focus on leadership, teamwork, communications, relationship building skills and personal growth. She shows clients how to
use their voice, spirit, and body to become their authentic selves as she teaches key story elements, listening skills, and improvisation. Her goal is for her clients is for them to leave her sessions smiling, and feeling positive about their ability to connect and communicate with others.
Julienne brings to her work, her experience as a talent management professional, educator, and performer. She has consulted with non-profits, academic institutions, and multi-national corporations. She holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Psychology and Leadership from Teachers College, Colombia University and a dual B.A. in Psychology/Urban Studies from Manhattan College.
Julienne is a member of the National Storytelling Network and currently serves as the Stories in Organization SIG Chair. She is also a member of Association of Training & Development, Arts Westchester, and the Blue Door Gallery. She wrote is the author of “The Learned-it-in-Queens Communications Playbook – Winning Against Digital Distraction” This humorous ‘playbook’ will help you connect more effectively with others personally and professionally.
Jerome Deroy, CEO, Narativ, Inc.
Jerome Deroy has led more than 1,000 individuals through training programs all over the world from Fortune 500 companies and household non-profit organizations such as UNICEF to Internet based companies and social enterprises. He also teaches the art of storytelling to students in the Design and Management course at Parsons, The New School of Design. He coaches CEOs, startup entrepreneurs, and program officers in the art of storytelling for pitches, fundraising, presentations and keynote addresses. After obtaining his MBA, he joined the bank BNP Paribas in Hong Kong, where he was marketing manager from 1999 to 2003. He moved to New York in 2004, working as a production manager and distribution coordinator on documentary films. In 2006, he started developing and leading Narativ’s training programs, focusing on applying the programs to client and staff communication and
engagement.
