Some studies indicate that more than 80% of today’s work is project based. However, not everyone wants to become a professional, certified project manager. In the first part of the workshop, we’ll explore the common misconception that project management is an administrative function. Next, we will review the twelve spokes of the project management functional wheel, and we’ll probe three areas to begin our exploration of delivery methods. We will walk through:
- What is scope? How can we define it? Why is it important anyway?
- How can you begin to build a project plan? What is the difference between a plan and a schedule? Do you need to learn Microsoft Project to be effective?
- What makes an effective status report? We’ll learn how to communicate the health of our initiative to our constituents.

From the Instructor: I’m a certified project management professional; but it’s not for everyone. Most people seem to want to get a handle on how to run a project better, provide their leadership, and deliver more effectively. I’ve written my book, blog and podcast, and have been a speaker on project management for the masses. If you want to get better, and don’t have time for boot camp, studying for a standardized test, and accumulating 36-60 months of project management experience is not for you, give Project Management for Non-PMs a try. We’ll get you up and running in no time. |
